The American Cycle Podcast, Episode 2 - The Abolitionist Era

Last week, we shared episode one of our four part series on the American Cycle. In that episode we discussed the Founding era, the first stage of the American Cycle, and how it represents America’s tragic attempt to balance the inhumanity of ethnocide with the humanity of democracy.

The American Cycle consists of four stages — Founding, Abolition, Reconstruction, and Redemption. You can listen to episode one here.

(You can also listen to all of our podcasts on Apple PodcastsSpotifyGoogle Podcasts, and Simplecast.)

In this installment, we discuss Abolition. In this stage, America strives to abolish ethnocide.

Since the United States is experiencing the second iteration of the American Cycle, we discuss America’s attempts to abolish ethnocide in both the 1800s and 1900s.

America has already gone through the cycle once before and now we are experiencing the second iteration. The American Cycle exists because our society continues to justify and legitimize the atrocity that is ethnocide. For America to be the fair, just, and equitable society that we need, we must to break the American Cycle.

We hope that you enjoy the first two installments of this four part series. Next Wednesday, we will send you part 3: Reconstruction.

Also, on February 3, I spoke on the panel “When Race and the Environment Collide: The Impact of Systemic Racism on Environmental Justice” at the American Bar Association’s Section on Civil Rights and Social Justice. You can watch the recording of the panel here.

Lastly, on February 9, I moderated the panel, “Reparations Roundtable,” at the American Bar Association’s Section on Civil Rights and Social Justice, where we discussed the importance of implementing reparations in the United States. You can watch the recording of the panel here.
